Confession is a Holy Sacrament by which a ‘ repentant would be absolved from his dreadful sins on receiving the unfathomable grace of God by the Priest, who is the reputed authority to serve it on behalf of ” The Church”. ‘If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.” [John 20 : 23 ] It is that holy sacrament by which one repents his sins and proclaims his belief in the Gospel.
Our Lord Jesus, descended to the earth from his heavenly abode not to gather the Saints, but to enfold all the Sinners on the Earth. He empowered the Church to grant salvation and a glorious eternal life to all sinners, who truly repented and believed in Him, and willingly, whole heartedly performed ‘The Confession’ before a Priest. The priest shall make atonement for him, for the sins that he has committed in any matter and it shall be forgiven by the Lord almighty. ”And many who had believed came confessing and telling their deeds”‘. [Acts 19:18]
The Confession should not be just whispering or reading out of our already listed sins, but should reveal our spiritual poverty, helplessness, committed sins in our life. Here lies its importance!!! A disobedient or pride soul will not gain salvation, even if the Lord Jesus Himself, in person, were to hear his confession. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. Holy Ambrose says that,’ Sin’ is venom and its remedy is the Confession. After that holy conversation with the Lord, our soul would be blessed with heavenly peace. As we people are in the grip of the claws of our enemy, The Old Serpent in each and every deed usually, to lead a crystal clear life is not an easy task. To reconcile with a new clear and holy life, the tune of our life style and mentality should undergo an enormous change, no doubt!
When you become truly aware of our present unhealthy, rotten spiritual life and when you are whole-heartedly ready to escape from that pathetic way, please go to your Confessor, as it is the one and the only one way to console your soul, mind and will. He, our God is the one, who very eagerly waits to shower his endless mercy upon us if we are ready to approach Him by admitting and confessing our sins. At that very moment after confession, you can feel that heavenly relief which the Lord would abundantly bestow upon you !
